Why do I lose stamina during sex?
Physical effort during sex can be limited by whole-body conditioning and local muscular endurance.
In common positions, the quads hold a bent knee, the glutes and hamstrings produce repeated hip extension, the trunk braces to transfer force, and the pelvic floor needs both strength and the ability to release; training those pieces can make physical effort feel less tiring.

Find the limiter
If your breathing gives out first, build aerobic capacity with work you can repeat: brisk walking, cycling, rowing, swimming, or intervals with enough recovery to keep your breathing controlled.
If your thighs burn first, train knee tolerance and quad endurance. Split squats, step-ups, reverse lunges, and wall sits all ask the quads to hold and produce force while the knee stays loaded. Start with a range of motion you can control, then gradually add depth, repetitions, or resistance.
If your hips or low back feel like the weak link, look at hip extension and hinge mechanics. The hip flexors need to lengthen as the hip moves behind the pelvis. When that range feels blocked or guarded, people often compensate by arching the low back or asking the quads to do more work.

Train the trunk, not just the legs
The trunk has to transfer force without turning every repetition into a low-back effort. Dead bugs, side planks, suitcase carries, and controlled hinges teach the ribs, pelvis, and spine to stay organized while the hips move.
The goal is not to brace as hard as possible for the entire session. A useful brace gives you support while still allowing you to breathe. That distinction matters when the activity is sustained rather than a single maximal lift.

Strength and release both matter
Pelvic-floor training is not just repeated squeezing. The muscles need to contract when required and relax when required. A simple practice is a gentle lift on the exhale followed by a complete release on the inhale; the release should feel like softening, not like holding a weaker squeeze.
More contractions are not automatically better. When the pelvic floor is already overactive or painful, down-training and relaxation are more appropriate than adding more Kegels, and a pelvic-health physiotherapist can assess that pattern.

A useful starting session
A simple session could include:
- 90/90 hip switches
- Half-kneeling hip-flexor mobility
- Split squats or step-ups
- Glute bridges or hip thrusts
- Romanian deadlifts with a controlled hinge
- Dead bugs or suitcase carries
- A short, repeatable aerobic finish

One safety line
A sudden or persistent drop in exercise tolerance, especially with chest discomfort, dizziness, unusual breathlessness, or pain, deserves clinical assessment rather than self-programming.
A body with more reserve gives you a better chance of being present for your spouse in the moments that matter.
