Pelvic-floor exercise can support sexual function after childbirth when the plan matches the body’s current needs.

The key is coordination: a pelvic floor that can gently contract, fully release, and work with breathing, hips, and trunk movement is more useful than simply doing more squeezes.

Find the limiter

If weakness or leaking is present, use gentle exhale contractions followed by full relaxation. If there is tightness, pain, burning, or difficulty relaxing, make release the first priority and do not force more Kegels.

If the broader issue is fatigue or confidence under load, add bridges, sit-to-stands, step-ups, and a light hinge. These build glute endurance, knee tolerance, and trunk control alongside pelvic-floor coordination.

Practice the connection

Use a slow inhale to soften the abdomen and pelvic floor. On the exhale, add a gentle lift if it is comfortable, then release completely before the next repetition. Carry that same rhythm into a bridge or sit-to-stand.

The aim is not maximum contraction. It is a body that can create support without losing breath, hip motion, or the ability to relax.
